STORIES IN DWELLINGS
Take a glimpse of the Filipino ancestral house; a place that never fails to create an experience specifically plucked out of a distant time. Comforting, the visitor is placed in a space of familiarity, surrounded by structures that have survived through time, encapsulating objects that possess stories and narratives strung through each generation’s past.
Stories in Dwellings is the final installment of Gallery Genesis’ Affordable Art Series. This collection presents artworks that contain inherited secrets of the Filipino’s cultural life. It is an exhibition of history, depicting architectural features of colonial Filipino homes which contains colors that reminisce of a simpler way of life.
Each featured artwork portrays an own individual story, an image out of one’s own recollection captured in time. We are deliberately placed into the eyes of another, seeing fond reminisces of an adored memory. As the visitor, stepping into another is past, we read the image and understand why the artist has developed a strong attachment to their portrayal of how and what once was. As the visitor, we welcome these obtained old, and new emotions by viewing these narratives into our own home.
